Ruth Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the third youngest daughter of Lithuanian-Jewish parents Mary Pauline (Gold) and Abraham Roman. Ruth was raised in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. She left school after two short years to pursue acting. This was not an easy path to take. While she was offered an interview at a theatre in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication but no theater jobs was offered. The following job she got was the "hat check" lady at a club before she gave up and returned to Boston. She was an usherette during the early morning hours and also performed at the New England Repertory Company by the evening. This was her first ever permanent acting job. She has also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
